8:00 am saturday

Last night as I slept on a couch next to Boothe, I woke to see the nurses feeding Copeland some formula through a small dropper. She started taking a passy last night and did a great job with it, so the neonatologist figured she could try and swallow some food. So at about 3 am last night, our little girl ate about 2CCs of real formula and did not spit it up. The nurses are trying again right now so we will see what happens. It is another thing she is not supposed to be able to do To say that we are overwhelmed would be an understatement. Emotionally we are prepared for certain things and God keeps reminding us that His plan is greater. Our plan is to take her home around lunchtime and go from there - I cannot really put into words what I am experiencing right now, I just feel like I am not in control - which is good but so scary. What I do know is that God is going to continue to use Copleland to impact more people, just like she has me.

Conor

I wanted to add my own words onto this quickly. We are in a state of shock, to some degree, as Conor said... Copeland began to eat last night after we were told, unequivocally, that eating wasn't an option for her. The neonatologist who was on-call last night felt that if she could suck - and the passy we offered her has become her favorite thing - and was also enjoying the sucrose drops, there wasn't a reason we couldn't try to get her to eat a little something. After two syringes full of formula, which is a lot thicker than the sucrose, we are convinced that for now, the Lord has decided things should look a little different than we expected. Taking her home has become much, much less strenuous, and best of all: our precious girl is finally getting the sustenance I think Conor and I both suspected she was longing for. If, in fact, her esophagus wasn't connected to her stomach, the Lord healed that in a matter of days. We are in awe.

We understand that ultimately our little girl still has trisomy-18. God didn't choose to remove or change that diagnosis. But she's going home totally tube-free... no oxygen, no feeding tubes... as "normal" as a baby with her status could ever hope to be. We have no idea what to expect, but we are trying to embrace the facts - again, how we've coped for this long in some ways - while at the same time acknowledging God's incredible ability to suprise us with joy.

  2. I am amazed, too! But then again, our God is bigger than we could ever begin to understand. His ways are not our ways. I just shared this verse with someone else who has a baby in the hospital, and I want to share it with you, too. Ps.62:5-6 "Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken." Still praying...

  5. There are not enough words to describe how excited I am for you and Conor at this moment. That fact that Copeland has taken a passy, the fact that she was truely able to eat last night, and now you have the plan of taking her home free of tubes. I know it is all so uncertain for you, but I pray that you will continue to rest in the Lord and His plan and of course remember that we are all out here supporting your family in thought and prayer. I love you guys and am excited for you on this blessed day.

His plans are not to harm you, but to give you hope.Eph1:11-12 says"according to His plan, who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. You both are giving strength to others and truly praise to the Father, who loves immeasurably more than any of us can imagine!! Our thoughts are with you as you start this next homecoming. 18. I have been reading your blog and praying for your family. This unexpected gift of time with precious Copeland is such an example of God's great love for you and His desire to bless His children.

I awoke last night around 3:00 and felt the need to pray for little Copeland - that God would watch over her and that He would grant you peace and a good night. I am touched to now read that that is about the time Copeland was able to drink the formula.

I am forever changed by your story of faith and grace and love. Thank you for keeping us all aware of how you are doing - to know that you are taking time from what you are going through to let us - even those of us you have never met - know what is going on and how we may pray for you, is overwhelming at times. Thank you for your trust and know that I honor that and will continue to lift you up in prayer.

    Hugs and blessings,

  23. Hi, Farley family, I came to your site from Miller Grace's just to see the faces of the souls we're all praying for. What a precious princess is Copeland!! And, a flirt, too, winking all the time! Today, I am praying for Copeland to be calm for her trip to her earthly home, for God to continue to perform miracles in her tiny little body, and for your ability to find the joy in each amazing moment! Holy is the Lord God Almighty....may He give you everything you need today and tonight.

I truly believe that Copeland is being used by God to show that He still performs miracles in this day and age. Truly, He is using Copeland to shame the wise and the strong (1 Corinthians 1:27)

I find myself sharing Copeland's story with so many people, near and far...and I realized just how much her life and your story is changing the way I look at my day, my children, my husband, my life. 69. How beautiful...I found your pages through Ashley's. I have anxiously checked throughout the day to see how Copeland is doing. All I can think of is that our God does exceedingly above what we humans could ever ASK and in Copeland's case, could ever think. I am crying as I read this...no one would WANT to walk this road...But, the Father has allowed you to love Copeland in the flesh, to make memories, for her to receive your love. What a joy to be able to feed her it must be. How unexpected! Its so funny because I can feel peace that I cannot explain even now. I will pray for you at every remembrance for the road ahead and rejoice with you in our God who makes beauty from ashes. What a hope we have. Hugs to your family! Colleen in OHio
