Hi there - I found your blog from Angie Smith's Bring the Rain. Congratulations on your beautiful daughter!

I am a child passenger safety technician, so I just had to comment on the car seat picture (yes, I do have an eagle eye, why do you ask??? ;) )

I see two dangers in that picture that I wanted to advise you about. The first is that the head surround is not the one that comes with the seat. This should not be used as it is not crash tested with the seat and could adversely affect the performance of the seat in a crash. The second is the use of the JJ Cole BundleMe - again, this seat because if goes between the child and harness and interferes with the harness, and is not crash tested with the seat could be dangerous in a crash.

Now, here's what you can safely do to a) keep the head from rolling around unwantedly and b) the little precious darling nice and warm:

a) You can use the head surround that came with your seat in the box when you purchased it. If you no longer have it or the seat did not come with one, you can use rolled up receiving blankets and place them around the child's head to stop the head floppiness (is that a word?) of the young baby.

b) To keep the baby warm, you can use this type of car seat cover safely - http://www.landsend.com/pp/FleeceCarSeatCover~137028_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::UMP&CM_MERCH=SRCH_00001&origin=search - this one is OK because it does not interfere with the harness or go between the child and the car seat. You can also use a blanket OVER the child and harness to keep them warm.

It is important to ensure your seat is installed correctly and is being used correctly - 85% of seats are not, putting children in danger.

A few other tips - make sure the chest clip is positioned level with the child's underarms. Make sure the harness is on snugly - if you can pinch the webbing horizontally together at the child's collarbone, the harness needs to be tightened. And finally, do not put a baby into a car seat wearing a snowsuit or similar bunting. Thin layers and a blanket over the top is safe.

I hope you don't mind this intrusion, but when I saw the car seat picture, I had to pipe up and make sure you were given some safety info to keep your little one safe.

If you have not had your car seat installation(s) checked before, make an appointment with your local technician - this is a free service, and might just save your child's life. You can locate your nearest tech through this website - http://www.safekids.oerg/certification.

Be blessed, be safe and enjoy your beautiful children!

I am so happy that God blessed you with another precious treasure to cuddle and love on --here on earth. I found your blog shortly before you gave birth, and continued to follow it not knowing that I was pregnant at the time. Finding out I was expecting an unexpected blessing after 15 years of giving up was a little overwhelming. My last daughter at home was in high school and my grown daughter had two babies of her own. This was not the time in my life that I wanted another baby. My heart ached for you because I knew you were devastated. I was being selfish and almost felt guilty because I really did not want to raise another child. I couldn't help but think of you. I was reminded that children are truly a blessing and that I needed to remember that God was in total control of my life. If this was His plan for my life, then I needed to roll with it and trust that everything would work itself out. Well, it did and those feelings of uncertainty and fear passed. I love my precious baby Kate so much and can't imagine life without her. Thank you for being an inspiration even during your darkest time. Your faith is truly amazing. Blessings to you and your beautiful family.

I came to your page from Cara's, who I found through someone else. But I got started reading and read all the way back to the passing of your daughter. I have just recently begun going back to church. Your faith through your hard times makes me realize that if people like you can have struggles like you've had and still stay positive and remain strong, we can get through anything. Thank you for being so candid in your blog. God bless you and your beautiful family. <3

Sarah said that I should contact you. I had a little girl who had Trisomy 18 and she lived for 2 days (2/6/2007-2/8/2007). I'm expecting triplets and am about 27 weeks pregnant right now.
Just thought that maybe we could e-mail. :)

I am so blessed to see you doing well. You don't know me, but somehow, along the line, I was informed of your blog page when Copeland was born and I followed along with you through the sorrow. It has been some time since I visited your blog, but it brings me so much joy to see you being blessed, yet again with a beautiful girl. God is so good. Thank you for sharing.
