one week ago...

I am sitting in Conor's office, listening to his co-workers wander in and out so that they can get a peek at our girl, and it astounds me that we have actually reached Copeland's one-week birthday! In about an hour, she will have been alive for exactly seven days. Astonishing.

I wanted to let you know we are doing well... we took Sellers to school this morning, showed Copeland off to her teachers and friends (they even made her a "Big Sister" crown to wear throughout the day!) and then headed off to run some errands and spend some quality time 'just the three of us' - Conor, Copeland and I. I am soaking up each and every moment I have as her mom... to get to share her with people who I know have been praying has been absolutely incredible. Everyone marvels at how tiny she is, at how perfect she looks (despite the fact that Trisomy-18 definitely has made its 'mark' on her, she is in many ways just a miniaturized version of a normal, healthy baby). There have been a couple of moments when the "blue spells" returned and my heart fell, thinking perhaps that would be the time the Lord would call her home. I pray each day for more time with her, but I also recognize the very real probability that each day could be her last. Each moment, even.

Conor and I prayed specifically for joy last night. I guess somehow in the middle of all of this, I'd forgotten that if I prayed for the ability to smile, to be able to look past - even ignore, to some degree - the imminent sadness before us, just for today, God would be faithful to answer. I know you are continually lifting us up, as well, and I want you to know how thrilling I find my position in this life to be right now. To put Sellers to bed, to wake her in the morning, to sit up late and talk with my husband about both the heaviest and silliest of subjects, to rock Copeland in my arms and just let Jesus give her each breath - all of these things fill me up so immensely that I find it hard to express. I never want to look back on this day - or the days ahead - and feel that I squandered the gift the Father is giving me.

Happy one-week birthday, Copeland... it is by the grace of the Father and the loyalty of the saints that you are here with us today.

Happy Birthday sweet, precious Copeland! You are a wonderful gift from God!! You are loved and are spreading love to others through each and every breath you take. Your mom, dad, and sweet sister Sellers are so blessed to have you in their lives. What a wonderful big sister you have in Sellers. She knows how to take care of you - she knows that you love the feel of the soft blanket on your cheeks. This is family. You are part of a bigger family too - most of who don't even know you and yet feel that they do as they lift you up before the Father in continual prayer. You are a blessing and many people are celebrating your one week birthday with you today!

Boothe and sweet precious family,
I learned of your family through Otter Creek Preschool. My children attend there as well and your testimony has traveled. You are an amazing woman who has already taught me so much. My family continues to pray for you, Copeland, Sellers, Conner, and those that are closest to you and ministering to you at this time. I pray that our Lord will whisper to your heart and you will hear just what you need from our perfect and loving Father. When you feel weak, take comfort in the truth that you are being taken to the throne of the Creator by so many others. We are honored to carry your burdens to him for your family. May you all be blessed! Kristen Brown

Happy birhtday sweet baby Copeland! Boothe, you too should be wearing a crown today. I do not know you personally but your journey has touched me in a deep way. I pray for you and your sweet girl daily. I was reading Matthew in the Message today and these words seemed to jump from the page. You know these beautiful truths in the depths of your soul.

You are blessed when you are at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.

You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

You're blessed when you are content with just who you are -- no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourself proud owners of everything that can't be bought.

Much love to you, blessed one.

God bless you for chosing to postpone any distant unknowns and just love on your daughter every moment, not missing any little nuggets of perfect joy. I am sure this is the hardest thing to let go, control of tomorrow that is not here yet. Be normal, this is good Boothe, so good. Do not be afraid of being hurt in loving, this is Gods miracle plan working itself out before you in His perfection. I hope you all smile all day without ceasing until your face aches!! I read your blog as often as I can and am always amazed at your strength. I have been and will continue to pray for you all. I pray most at night when my little man is awake. Instead of being mad at him for waking me, I realize it is time I can spend with him and pray for you. Which until finding your blog I would be angry and grumble about not getting time to myself. I now see how precious that time really is. For that I thank you. You are an amazing family. You have taught us all so much.
I pray for strengh and peace for you all and I can see that God has given you all those things.

Dear Boothe and Conor,
I am celebrating with you today with great joy and thankfulness for Copeland's birthday!! Someone wrote earlier about the Aaron Copland song, "Simple Gifts". I, too, recall this from your wedding. It seems the perfect day to remember it, so....here are the lyrics.

"Simple Gifts"
'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

Praying today that you will dwell "in the valley of love and delight" and much, much joy ... ~Renée

Yes, indeed, Happy 1 week!

I will share with you a phrase God gave me during a particularly rough spot in my life. Although by comparison it was quite light.

The phrase is ...
I may not always be able to _____, but today I can.

It worked when I was enjoying something wonderful and the devil would try to torment me by the fact that I would not always be able to enjoy it. Or when I was going through someting rough, it was a reminder that God was giving me the grace right then to do what I need to right then. So for you it may go something like this ... I may not always be able to _____, but right now I can! (by God's grace)

All His best to you!

Happy Birthday Copeland!
Boothe, several posts back you mentioned that you and Connor prayed that your story would be stirred up inside of us....that you would never be far from our thoughts so we would keep your family in our prayers throughout everyday. Let me tell you...it worked! I don't know you but I feel like I do. I think of you and pray for you constantly, sometimes up in the middle of the night. 4 months ago your story would have touched me, but not the same way it does now. My daughter is 4 months old and I am experiencing a love I did not know was possible. My heart hurts for you and I admire your bravery. I was rocking baby Grace to sleep 2 nights ago praying for you and thinking...Boothe, you love God the way I want to. You have taught me so much and you don't even know me.
I was listening to a song yesterday and it is written from the perspective of Jesus. He says "Father, pour out your grace. This one is seeking your face. You know why I died...Father you love this child....Look at my hands and feet...Grant mercy."
Thank you for continuing to share your story. Your faith is inspiring.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Copeland's 1 week birthday! I admire your willingness to embrace the ordinary -- preschool, work, bookstores -- in the midst of this extraordinary time. As so many have already said, thank you for sharing this journey with all of us, both friends and strangers. I know that for me it has given a renewed focus to my daily life, to my enjoyment of my children, to my appreciation for my husband, to my prayers which begin with Copeland but then continue in a way that they hadn't for a while. Happy First week Copeland, you are such a tiny miracle that has touched so many lives for the better. I have learned so much about a deep hurt of losing babies (not through abortion) through the eyes of your Godly parents who are letting you go to the father and being content in that. My losses were extremely difficult and it has taken me a long time to be able to let them go. Watching your process has helped me to know that God truely was in mine as well.
My heart hurts so much for your mommy, daddy and sister who will let you go, however they have taught me it is ok to let go in the Fathers hands.
You have been such a testimony Copeland to the Fathers love. I have become a changed person because of this journey and testimony of true faith. Thankyou Boothe and Connor, thankyou.

Dear Boothe, you don't know me. I kind of new your husband in college...we had a few mutual friends. I have heard of your trial through friends and my husband and I have been praying continually for you, Conor, Sellers, and precious Copeland. As I prayed for you today, God reminded me of this old hymn, and one of my favorites, Because He Lives.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives All fear is gone;
because I know
He holds the future.
And life is worth the living just
because He lives.

How sweet to hold
a newborn baby,
And feel the pride;
and joy He gives;
but greater stil
the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days
because He lives.

This is an uncertain time in your life. Praise Jesus that He lives and gives us the strength to go on. Praise to God that we all will dwell with him in eternity.
Your testimony to your faith in the Father has changed my life. I am a better mother to my children and wife to my husband because of it. Sweet Copeland is so small, but God has already used her in more ways than we'll ever know. I am so thankful to you. I will continue to pray. ~Emily Powell

Happy Birthday!!!

I'd like to leave you with the words to a song I know.

"Each day that I live, He gives more than I need. I could never describe His goodness to me. You ask how I make it day after day, there's only one thing I can say.

It's been a long journey, but I have been blessed. Walking with Jesus, I have no regrets. He is so good to me I must confess. The way has been long, but I'm blessed.

All that I need, I find at His feet. When I'm hungry He feeds me with manna, so sweet. When my soul is weary, He gives peace and rest. All I can say is "I'm blessed".
Now, I've had my share of sunshine and rain. Days filled with laughter and nights filled with pain, but with every mile as I travel this way, the journey gets sweeter each day.

I'm blessed - so much more than I'll ever deserve. I'm blessed - He's been faithful and true to His word. I'm blessed - I've been blessed by the hand of the Lord. I'm blessed, I'm blessed, I'm blessed!"

May the Lord bless and keep you. May His face shine upon you!

Dear Boothe,

I don't know if you remember me from Auburn .. . probably not considering we most likely only spoke at a rush party or something trivial like that. I live in London now, and when I heard about your blog yesterday I read the entire thing. I felt every emotion in one sitting: sorrow, anger, joy, thankfulness, anxiety, relief, etc. Through the tears I am praying for you and your amazing family. Thank God for his faithfulness in never letting us walk alone - and also that his mercies are new every morning! Especially today when there is an entire week of Copeland's life to celebrate. I will keep praying and checking the website. So much love to you and your darling girls. And of course, Happy First Week to Copeland!

Boothe, I love the part of the Bible when it is recounting the birth of Jesus. And how it says that Mary stored up the treasures in her heart. I pray that for your entire family, that you can store up these tresured times w/copeland and keep them in your heart.

Happy birthday sweet baby girl!

Hey Booothe - Its Jennifer (Peabody) Barr - I am astounded by what God is doing in your family and how He is using Copeland in an incredible and mighty way to reach so many people. Your blogs have challenged me to live for the moment, for the day, not for tomorrow. The example of your's and Connor's faith and joy has brought me closer to God. Your words have been a tool for God to work in my life, and those I have talked with who are also reading your blog. I wouldn't be surprised if God has used your blog to bring people to know Him. What a testimony. Thanks for sharing, thanks for your honesty. Know that God is using this tiny precious being in a mighty way.

I Will Praise Him Still
(Fernando Ortega)

When the morning falls
On the farthest hill
I will sing his name,
I will praise him, still.

When dark trials come
And my heart is filled
With the weight of doubt,
I will praise him, still.

For the Lord, our God,
He is strong to save
From the arms of death,
From the deepest grave,
And he gave us life
In his perfect will,
And by his good grace
I will praise him, still.

Boothe and Conor--
Your story has touched me deeply. You are walking such a difficult path and doing it with grace. I am so happy that God has granted you this week (and pray for many more) to spend with Copeland. I lost a tiny son who only lived a couple of hours and I would have given ANYTHING for nore time--keep cherishing your time together. I will keep lifting you all up in prayer.

Happy 1 week, Copeland! What a momentous and joyous occasion this is. We are celebrating with and continuing to pray. I could "hear" the joy in you, Boothe, as I read this post.

Boothe and Conor, Your honesty has touched me deeply and I only found your blog last night. What a precious child you have and how gracious of God to give you this unexpected time with her.
If you haven't already, please make sure you have some professional photographs done of your family. You will be glad you did. There is a non-profit organization where photographers volunteer to do a session with your family for free when a child is stillborn or facing death. Here is the link for photographers around Nashville.: http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/pageDisplay.php?page=2

We celebrate Copeland's life today with you - we will pray for your continued strength...for supernatural patience with anything and everyone in view... that you will somehow not fear sorrow or the unknown.. I pray for joy today - little conversations that will even bring laughter.... I pray that God will guard your sleeping and your mind when you rest - that He would win the war over you when you close your eyes to recharge...that you both will feel rested when you wake up... His banner over you is love...

Happy Birthday Copeland! I am so glad you, Connor, and sweet Copeland are having time together. How blessed we all are by this sweet baby's testimony of what Christ can do and how blessed you are with this special time with her. Like I said before I am a friend of Whitneys and have kept you in my prayers each and every day. Wow, how powerful our Lord is! You and your family are an ideal example of that! I hope this day brings you peace, love, and joy!
